Narendra Modi dominates the news as an active Prime Minister. Closely following him are Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and BJP President J.P. Nadda. Of course, there are numerous opposition leaders on the scene. But after that, you have the phenomenon of leaders from the North-East India, like Kirren Rijuju and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Sarma becoming all-India figures.

According to Vastu and Indian traditions, the North-East is an important place for any house. The North-east must be kept clean and peaceful. Narendra Modi started his election campaign in 2013 from the North-East, citing importance of North-East ( Esanyam). For many decades, North-east was in the political backwaters of India and there was conflict. But India has learnt to compromise and bring peace to the North East.

Rise of North East Politicians:

200 years ago, English writer Thomas Carlyle said: “The history of the world is the story of great men “From the Northeast India, we see 2 active politicians and their story summarizes the rise of the Northeast in India. ..

Kirren Rijuju , Union Law Minister and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma are 2 BJP leaders, who are now all-India figures and great politicians . There might be other successful Ministers like Piyush Goyal, Commerce Minister and Railway Minister Ashwini Vasihnav .But they are technocrats and not politicians . Kirren Rijuju and Himanta Biswa Sarma are prominent politicians on the Indian scene and this is good for India.

Till now, Fakrudinn Ali Ahmed from Assam was Rashtrapathi of India in 1975.But since then, there has been no All-India figure from the NorthEast . National leaders earlier used to come only from Hindi heartland. In fact, Uttar Pradesh contributed Prime Ministers Nehru, Shastri, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Charan Singh and ChandraSekhar. Even Narendra Modi is an MP from Uttar Pradesh.

Only Subhas Chandra Bose came from the East. No national leaders came from the north east till now .
The rise of Kirren Rijuju and Himanta Biswa Sarma must be applauded, because they are from the North east, do not belong to rich and dynastic families and have asserted themselves politically and become national figures.

Kiren Rijiju hails from Arunachal Pradesh, which is the farthest corner of India on China border. Arunachal is a state with 75% of the size of Telengana, but only 13 lakhs population. Rijuju was educated as a lawyer in Delhi. The rise of Rijuju is a shining example to the entire North East and puzzles China& Pakistan, on how India integrates Minorities and different people.

Rijuju is in the news now because he is demanding judicial reforms and asked for a place for government in appointment of judges. Earlier, Kirren Rijuju was an outstanding Minister of Home and Minister of Sports. He created a pool of sportspersons and sports culture in India. Kirren Rijuju served well everywhere. Since 2000, there were dozens of Telugu Ministers. Please name one who did well like Kirren Rijuju ?

While President Draupadi Murmu is the first tribal President, someday, a Northeast person should become Prime minister or President.

Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam:

Sarma was in the Congress party earlier and joined the BJP in 2013, as BJP was ready gave him space for his political ambitions. Sarma was a product of the Anti-Foreigners agitation launched in Assam in 1979 by Assamese, as they complained that Assam was being taken over by people from Bangladesh.

The Assamese people form a distinct racial and language group. The Assamese have a deep respect for their language, literature, music and cultural traditions. The most famous Assamese is not a politician, but a musician and writer Bhupen Hazarika, who died in 2011 and was given the Bharat Ratna.

The critical importance of Northeast:

The North East maybe 10% of India’s land, with great water resources. Ever since China grabbed Tibet in 1951, it became a neighbor of India and started creating trouble. China encouraged NorthEast people to wage war against India. China encouraged rebels with arms, money and sanctuary in Burma forests.

On the other hand, Pakistan was sabotaging Assam by infiltrating lakhs of people from Bangladesh.

1. All governments in India from 1947, have been trying to integrate the entire North-east into mainstream India and it is happening.
2. A big agitation started in Assam in 1979 against millions of illegal foreigners from Bangladesh into Assam. The Rajiv Gandhi government concluded an agreement with Assam people in 1984. P.V. Narasimha Rao played a great role in settling the issue.
3. Thanks to infra-structure development, the 7 States of North-East , including Assam are now connected all over India.
4. Lakhs of North-East youth work all over India and have earned a name as sincere and honest people. They are a treasure of India and should be greatly valued.
5. Both Kirren Rijuju and Hemant Biswa Sarma are from middle class families with no dynasty or wealth. This is opposite to the prevailing trend of political parties where a family dominates the party and state.

It is thrilling to see 2 North-East leaders become national figures and known all over India. Of course, the Sun rises in the East. It is time that all-India leaders emerged from the North-East.

The North-East people bring their own unique culture of honesty ,self-respect , simplicity and a great cultural history.
